Ryan's Rocker...

Gather around readers, for I've got a story to tell. Thanks to the participation by many in the comments (it will reflect on your participation grade for the class), I have something to blog about. That being said, let's get started!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Submitted for the approval of the midnight society, I call this story... "Tale of the 80's." Although I linked to a lot of my favorite things from the 80's in the previous post, I'll throw in a few more that are currently in my mind waiting to break free. To keep order, I will Dave Letterman it and give you a list of 10, but not necessarily those at the top. (Note: due to my age at the time and memories, I'll stick to cartoons and cut it down to 5)

5. Dino Riders, like Transformers, had awesome toys.
4. This was my generations Power Rangers. The only difference? This show rocked and Power Rangers, well, enough said.
3. By the Power of Grayskull, how I loved this show and I still have my Power Sword... somewhere...
2. Who you gonna call? This show was probably second only to the following one. Now, like then, I still don't know why Egon is blonde!?
1. That's right, reminiscing about this show is quite bittersweet for me. The good? Almost everything about them was tubular. The bad? That dam water level on the NES game and losing many of my action figures on a trip to California. (I still hold that they were stolen...)

Overall, I remember the 80's fondly. Due to the broadness of the topic, I hope my focus was alright by the Kik's. Now for the spooky twist ending, I only lived through half the decade!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Next, I was questioned as to how I had the time to create a link for every word? Elementary, my dear Mellens - for love of the game, or in this case, love of the blog. I like you all (my fellow readers) so much so that 60% of the time, I give my all every time. For that reason, I'm going to respond to each comment in excruciating detail. Beat that, The View!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The next question could be opening up a whole new can of worms, and I'm sure more than a fair share of surprises. Even if an end to the Writer's strike is nearing (and possibly over by the Academy Awards) there are many shows I love and some that I loathe. By far my favorite shows are those with witty and well-written dialogue. I also tend to prefer shows with long story-arcs (preferably season-long, not series long). Lastly, I have a soft spot for science fiction and fantasy. That being said, my upmost favorite shows come from the creative mind of Joss Whedon. Of those shows, there's only one I would recommend to the uninitiated, and I'd give it my highest recommendation. The show is 'Firefly,' one of the best selling TV shows on DVD at Amazon.com. It is also the forerunner to the movie 'Serenity.' That being said, here's some of my other favorite shows that I think others might like. I'll refrain from linking to the opening of each like I did with the 80's 'toons.

5. Lost - Sure I'm just finishing Season Two, but this show has only become better. The first season was tough for me to sit through, but the second has been exponentially better. Then again, that's likely due to the first season setting it all up.
4. Alias - Another J.J. Abrams show that I think Lost will surpass the more I watch, but this show had an opposite problem. After starting out strong, it peaked during the second season then started yielding diminishing returns.
3. Friday Night Lights - The movie was good, the first season was great. The second season started out rocky, but that does not discount the expertly written first season. This is also a show where there's something for everyone, or so I feel.
2. Heroes - The first season was a phenomenon, the second season however was a roller coaster of quality. The dialogue isn't its strong suit, but the plot twists and cliffhangers certainly are. Here's to hoping the third season - whenever it comes - ushers in a return to form.
1. Veronica Mars - Besides shows by Whedon, this is my favorite show. Therefore you can understand how happy it makes me that others have experienced the mystery of 'who killed Lilly Kane?' Although each successive season lost steam (due mostly to network demands), even at its weakest it is better than most shows on TV. That being said, Veronica's third season will accompany me when I see you next B-Dorr.

Now I'll offer up a few (non-daytime) shows that I loathe. This list excludes reality shows, most of which rank above all of these (that's a bad thing). These are sure to spark controversy among someone(s), including my wife.

4. Law and Order: SVU - The conversations between characters make this show painful for me, even when there's a good case to be solved.
3. Ugly Betty - Like some of these shows, I don't think I'm in the target demographic. That being said, I still don't like it.
2. Charmed - How did this show stay on the air for 8 seasons?
1. Grey's Anatomy - This medical soap opera seems to have less characters who have not slept with each other than those who have. Judging from ratings though, it appears the viewers are catching on and returning to CSI - I don't blame them.

I'll finish this segment by reminding everyone that one person's junk is another person's treasure. I was just throwing in my couple of copper Lincolns.

Anonymous #1, you're your mom... your mom's my mom... I'll mom you...

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Brian s, all of you (the 's' is for plurality right?): Personal hygene, are you trying to tell me something? Checked and marked. Buffet dinners, you find a lot of them at Casino's and they're often a gamble themselves. What it comes down to is 'you win some, you lose some.' When you find a winning one though, it's always a jackpot. Well, at least until it digests - then you feel like you're the slot machine dropping toilet tokens. By the way, how's the line I crossed a sentence ago? Lastly, those are some tough choices of superpowers. Neither of which I feel are that greatly powerful and therefore would not require that great of responsibility. That being said, I'd go with the Ketchup Belly Button. The other power would've caused a considerably painful childhood.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

In regards to Amillenial Eschatology, how about the variant premillennial view or postmillennial view? Focusing on Amillenial, it does not believe that the thousand years of fulfillment described in Revelation is literal and that the millennium described does not mean the rule of Christ on earth... I think? Is that enough for you to read on the clock? Assuming it is, I'll respond to your question with a series of questions: have you seen 'Wonderfalls?' If so, how'd you like it? If not, why?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Anonymous #2, I know I answered Brian's questions earlier on, but I hope you've stuck around even past that last one. If so, I commend you and will leave you with this closing statement - so tell all your anonymous friends:
Thank you to everyone who participated! If I ever go too long without posting, now you know what to do. I have a feeling you probably got your fill of my views for a while, and I think I've just written our blog's longest post. That being said, it's been fun and I'll see you next time... in an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

I read that you love Joss Whedon and ceased to read the entire rest of the post because I got so excited!
can we be best friends?
...not only do I own/love/preach Firefly to anyone who listens, but I also own the entire series of BtVS and A (not spelling them out because people mock me. but as a fellow Whedon-ite, you know what I'm talking about), and also a couple of his Fray comics...!

oh the joy of nerd-solidarity...
